When an image fails to load, alt text shows in its place, is indexed by search engine bots to help them better comprehend the content of your website, and is read aloud by screen readers used by people who are visually impaired. Alt text used within an HTML code or in the relevant field in your CMS is often referred to as "alt attributes," "alt descriptions," or technically wrongly as "alt tags" (Content Management System.)(Alt Text: Why It's Important For Accessibility & SEO, 2022)
